Reply to FDNY, Sheriff's Office inspection reveals hundreds of battery charging, storage violations at shops by Grass8989
n 2022, FDNY said there were 191 fires, 140 injuries, and six deaths from lithium-ion fires in the city.
Also Friday, Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh held a public safety briefing, giving an update on the increasing number of lithium-ion battery-related fires. "It is alarming and dangerous. That's why I am urging all New Yorkers to take a closer look at what they are buying to ensure the items are certified by UL or another testing and certification company."
The New York City Council is considering bills to address lithium-ion battery safety, with the FDNY already agreeing with the language. The bills include prohibiting the sale and assembly of second-hand batteries that have been assembled or reconditioned, and requiring mobility device batteries to be listed and labeled by a nationally recognized testing laboratory or other approved organization to be sold.

No the solution for the traffic to diversify the areas in where people need to meet up to work or all the tourist showing up. everything going to one part of town is a terrible. OR THE REAL ANSWER lower the population by 1-2 million Even if we all biked we gonna still need to find a bike warehouse to store all the bikes and we will be right back to square one. Not every business needs to be in lower Manhattan. We need positive train control since 2010 we need a subway going from the Bronx to queens to Brooklyn bypassing Manhattan, we need a subway from Staten island to Manhattan or Brooklyn 30 years ago using eminent domain.

The anti car people are gonna give you the same talking points , cars are bad , it's causing health issues, just bike everywhere, take public transportation, just use Uber or lyft. Reddit will say they are pro bikes Lanez but do not trust reddit opinion as the city consensus. Also it's 8 million ppl not including tourist ( traffic will happen regardless of mode of transportation)
Nyc major issues is that everything transit directs to Manhattan below 125 street and parts of Brooklyn. In my personal opinion I think bike lanes are ok, but with the incoming gentrification people may feel it's to get the poor's out. ( Metro north in co-op city)
Also remember most of those who commute are mostly in two camps, rich ppl from Conn or NJ who refuse to live in nyc or the service workers ( who can't rely on the subway to get from the other Bronx to lower Manhattan all the time) ( we need cbtc since yesterday)
As for the Bronx well they gonna bulldoze all the houses for apartment buildings

nycha buildings are approaching their expect build life of over 60 years. Most of these buildings have deferred maintenance leading to a backlog of almost $40 billion. These buildings honestly should be torned down and rebuilt. NYCha does not have enough staff or staff willingly to do these repairs
