Genuine: someone explain how congestion pricing helps the MTA money problem? Quick glance, it looks like it would solve no problems for the MTA and only (maybe) reduce traffic while also costing avg people more out of pocket. Other than the net positive of reducing emissions, which could be achieved in a 1000 other ways, congestion pricing seems to only reward the corruption within the MTA/state. Lmk if I’m crazy.

Lmao imagine thinking congestion pricing is the magic bullet we need.

Where’s all the congestion pricing cheerleaders? Been pretty quiet lately as the MTA gets exposed for its offensive mismanagement.

The ferries aren’t bad at all and are consistent, but definitely more expensive.

Because Uber has become profit vulture and gives zero fcks about their drivers. Considering the amount of T&LC cars I see around there’s no reason why they couldn’t control for this even if it means waiting a few more minutes for a car.

Always good to hear an objective fresh take on NYC. Living in & around the city can make you a little salty on the topic of transpo and other city inconveniences but we forget what the alternative to NYC is: nothing. There’s no place like it. While other European cities may have comparable transit the vibes just don’t check out, maybe with Paris being the one exception for me personally. Anyway, NYC ain’t so bad.

If current trends continue some of these bldg owners are going to take a loss. There’s not really a way around that. Commercial real estate in the city has been insanely inflated for a long time. Over valued vs residential by like 4:1 or more in some areas. So, why would they sell if they can’t cover? To cut their losses is why. Gotta stop the bleeding somehow. Just my speculation but any guess is as good.

Not a surprise at all which is what I’m saying. It’s just lazy writing for FT to say it’s not a suitable alternative.

A lot of excuses as to why office buildings can’t become residential. You can bet those excuses will evaporate once the rates inch downwards and banks are happy to finance these conversions into high priced luxury real estate in prime Manhattan locations. Just wait on it.

This is already happening. There’s literally a Whole Foods in Manhattan West. Not such a dump like it was just a few years ago.

But but but a congestion tax will fix this, they promise! Just feed the MTA more money, they’ll know exactly how to best use it 😉

I’ve seen my share of men/women crying in public. Most times they’re on the move so you can’t even interact, otherwise you just ask “you ok?” and limit your involvement as you have no clue what you’re stepping into unprepared.
I think the better and more practical application of being “NY Proud” is look out for your immediate neighbors. Get to know your upstairs, downstairs and bldg next door block mates. These are the people who will inevitably look out for you when your package goes missing or need help up/down the stairs with something big or heavy. A lot of NYCers find community at work or other social places and completely ignore the lonely abuelita living her last few years in their own building. Just my .02

Even the render on the banner for what would replacement didn’t look good. How tf did they pull that one off. Terrible. Hopefully MSG will someday be demolished in favor of a train station.
