I had a niece that had 2 kids by 17.

Our adoption process took months and $$$ to prove at ages 35 and employed with our own home, that we could be competent parents.

I was under the impression that he did that to have his mom help him make sure he doesn't change his mind. This way she can call the police to turn him in.

I had mixed feelings about the ending. But what the killer did at the end was a nice way to conclude it.
