It's drained in the winter, and periodically to clean the muck out.

That building hasn't been maintained properly and parts of it are literally falling apart. It was at risk of being demolished before the pandemic, but it's in limbo now.
The Mass Dept of Public Health building in JP is also Brutalist.

This particular building exemplifies "form follows function". The internal spaces create the shapes that you see on the outside. One example is the city council chambers. The underside of it hangs in the corner of the building over the main entrance and the step backs that you see in the ceiling are the viewing gallery risers.

I wish they'd reopen the exterior/interior plaza spaces to the public. They've been fenced off for decades now for 'security' and they only use them for limited events.

No, it means that after about 50-75 years, styles become historical, rather than outdated. Many styles have this period where they get torn down because they aren't in style, and they aren't appreciated.
Brutalism isn't coming back because it was a 60s-70s idea, and the world has moved on.

If they made it into an actual park, it'd help significantly. With like grass and trees and a reason to linger, rather than as a passthrough to get to somewhere else.

The student center and the Fine Arts buildings are both Brutalist. Amherst has a more diverse set of styles than Dartmouth does.

I regret now not coming into the city to take pictures of the emptiness. But I had other things on my mind at the time.

Fares never fully paid for the cost of running the system. I don't remember the exact percent, but it's only as high as 60%, and that feels high. It's public transit and uses public money to operate with.
Studies have shown the costs of collecting and enforcing fares is pretty close to what the fares bring in in many systems.

Maybe the state will tie it in with the planned rehab of that section of Morrissey (that has been in the works for years).

In Quincy, with the current zoning, I could not build my house on my lot. I cannot add a floor to my house. I cannot add an accessory dwelling unit.

I read a ton of sci-fi in my youth, and kind of burned out on it for many years, and I'm really selective on what sci-fi I read now. It's a lot harder to find engaging works that are good.
> and sometimes it is pure random chance that you are in the right headspace to read a particular book at that moment to have it leave a meaningful impact on you.
I read a few romances (magical romance) that really resonated with me, so it's something I keep an eye out for now.

I certainly never want to read anything realistic to pandemics. Watching Contagion was enough.
I read an article at the beginning comparing to the Spanish Flu, how there are very few stories/books/movies that reference it at all. Like people didn't want to be reminded about it and put it behind them as fast as they could.
It tracks with this one that most media that isn't news is pretending that it isn't happening at all.
