A lot of motorcycles from these times where so called „push bikes“. You put in second gear, open gas/air some 20% and pull the decompression lever. Start pushing, release decompression and jump in the saddle as soon as the engine starts.

Some bikes had kick starters, others like Royal Enfield had hand operated cranks untill mid 20ies. Quite a job to crank start a 2 cylinder 900 ccm engine. 💪🏼

This is a AJS K7, 350 ccm OHC(not only OHV!!!) from 1928. At that time the really wild thing. Note the flat tank, inverse levers and gas/air levers - still not the twist gas grips. Note also the gas head light. Photo is most likely end 1920ies/early 1930ies. I keep my fingers crossed that you still have this motorcycle. 🤞🏼
