Rulers have always dreamed about controlling what people think, that's just a well-established historical fact. You think MKULTRA is a "conspiracy theory", too?

Reply to [P] Introducing arxivGPT: chrome extension that summarizes arxived research papers using chatGPT by _sshin_
Reminder: ChatGPT will routinely leave out aspects of information even if you are giving it the task of re-phrasing what you have said in a different style, if this information is deemed problematic in some way - and it will do this without even telling you.
This effect will also be present - probably even more pronounced - in summaries.

I'm not sure what your "linear thoughts" look like if you think a language model that constantly updates itself to maintain its predictive ability is "thinking" in any way. Where does agency come into the picture here? Where's the goal structure?

Reply to Based on what we've seen in the last couple years, what are your thoughts on the likelihood of a hard takeoff scenario? by bloxxed
There's still no direct path from the way neural networks function right now to GAI. And from where we're standing, I'm not sure anyone can say how likely that is to change. We're like greek philosophers speculating about physics.
