If you're covered at Mercy I believe you can get neuropsych assessment there. My PCP referred me there for my autism assessment.

I don't go there but I've heard from friends they are in fact pretty much a capitalistic machine, so not far from a car dealership. They charge for things like emotional support animal letters for your landlord. My Burrell ppl did not charge for that

I just want to validate your culture shock. I moved away from the area for college and came back as a 30 something and I had spent time away in a far more progressive area and it was just weird coming back here and being a new person and feeling like how it is here. But there are still some cool people. You might find them on our local discord chat.

OK one time a few years back I went all the way to Seymour to try to find a place to sleep and had booked online successfully. But when I arrived at the hotel to check in they turned me away and kept showing me an error code from their computer which was simply the numbers of my local zip code. They wouldn't explain if it meant something specific or was a coincidence and it's bugged me for years how they turned me away even though I'd paid ahead. Now I'm convinced that their system was actually set up to CHECK for this? IDK

Something similar happened to me, my primary care clinic shut down their office and moved or got absorbed into another system and didn't notify patients in any ahead of time kind of way ... or give alternatives to contact them for last minute release forms to new doctors... so we were calling an empty office suite for like two months before just caving in and going with the next available PCP at Mercy, simply due to the fact the portal is convenient enough for basic ass communications.

I've met him. His church and a few of the other Progressive churches are the few that do homeless Outreach or used to. I attended a few services hosted by him at the venues and it was the chillest thing I have ever seen for a church service I swear to god. Unlike anything I grew up with. Unlike the kind of church where everybody turns around and watches you walk in, they're used to people just kind of dropping in and out to check it out or have a cup of coffee and leave. LOL

Yeah I already commented before but I'm going to second this. Maybe you could do it if you had tons of savings and parents willing to come rescue you or whatever if something happened but a lot of us don't have that and are just trying to survive because that vehicle is all we had. If other people in the same or Worse situations get to know you in the Springfield at least there is a chance that they will Target you because they feel you're rich for having a vehicle. Unfortunately this is how it is and why I ended up with slashed tires and people pounding on my vehicle while I'm trying to feel safe at night because for some reason a 120 pound girl curled up in a car shivering with a fever because she's got nowhere to stay inside with her illness the other people in the neighborhood feel unsafe.

I m a woman and had to live out of my car before and during the pandemic. Finding legal and safe parking where you're allowed to sleep was a bit of a challenge. Sure you're less likely to be spotted inside a van but it might get more scrutiny from the neighbors including business owners and this was the biggest reason I didn't get enough sleep was having to get up and drive to another spot in the middle of the night because neighbors or cops or, in one case, other homeless people found my spot and were pounding on my windows.

Well the IUD isn't Fail-Safe either but for people like me with ADHD I find it hell of a lot easier than remembering to take pills or go in every so often for that injection. The insertion process varies by person and provider of course. I don't think I would want to do it if I was 15 years old either. However at Planned Parenthood of Indiana were great and more gentle than the Jordan Valley gynecologist yanked out the first one to put in the second one. I'm going on a tangent here. Sorry. I guess my point is if I could go back with the knowledge I have today I would have picked an IUD but I had had several years of gynecological exam experience and was used to a speculum by the time I chose that. I think that's important for somebody considering an IUD for their first choice if they haven't been through a thorough exam yet it could definitely be traumatizing as a first intro

Gosh that's great I'm glad you're helping them with that too. I hated the shot when I was a young woman and that's why I'm glad I found iuds and was able to make an informed decision. The shots and pills absolutely wrecked my body and I wasn't really informed enough to choose something else when I was that young.

It certainly did once I learned a little bit about the training social workers at one door must undergo to take the vi spdat, which is what homeless people call the survey. It's really just an algorithm that assesses all of your different vulnerabilities as a homeless person that you are experiencing. In my time being homeless I found that a lot of people assume what things mean on that survey and believe that they need to lie about it to get better results. And the case workers don't exactly help you answer or understand what your answers on that decision algorithm actually translate to in terms of assistance. Once I learned more about it I was able to qualify myself into Housing Programs although it was still a couple of years of waiting list and motel vouchers. Part of it involved admitting to some motel and couch stays before qualifying.

Please ask your Psychiatry provider for pharmacogenetic cheek swab testing before they prescribe the medication though. I found out that a lot of autistic and ADHD adults have many comorbid conditions that might be genetic and a lot of us have out of the ordinary metabolism of common psychiatric drugs and the pharmacogenetics test needs to be given by a psychiatrist provider before prescribing a dose custom to that person. This is pretty new science and I learned that I was taking way too high of doses my entire life that were toxic to me and a lot of my neurodivergent friends have gotten the same result. Now we know which medications not to just trial and error based on that genetic report. I will argue with any psychiatrist who tells me to just take something without looking at my pharmacogenetic report. I'm an ultra rapid metabolizer of many common ADHD and depression medications and they could be toxic for me. Please be safe. I just want to spread this information to everyone.

I want to add, assuming it's the same doctor and Network, that Dr insisted a great job of post assessment follow-up counseling, also paid by medicaid, with me after I got to read the crazy 17 Page report. She did a great job of helping me feel more normal and talking to me like the adult I am seeking assessment for myself for personal reasons. Her Clinic was completely willing to participate in helping me win my social security disability claim. I've heard bad things about places like Burl and eustasis cooperating with those information requests from Social Security but this was smooth.

Is this Dr kim? She did my assessment at Mercy in springfield. I was tested for both autism and ADHD and a lot of neurocognitive testing because of brain injury. It was very thorough and they took my medicaid.
