It’s universally been proven: adding a lane just draws more drivers to that route.

I watch my boss leave everyday at 5p to drive East on Chestnut, south on 65, west on 60…to exit at Chesterfield Village. This route makes absolutely no sense. No map app would recommend this. But he “feels” that no lights is faster.

Remember when 65 was closed a few years back? He and all those other drivers that shouldn’t be driving there in the first place…found themselves more convenient routes along Glenstone, National, Campbell, Kansas Expy, West Bypass.

People make poor decisions and don’t understand maps. We should add navigation questions to our driving tests.

The no more than 3 unrelated is broken by tenants and developers. There are a number of builders who have built 4 bedroom units along Cherry Street, just a few blocks from MSU campus. The single-family neighborhood has a neighborhood organization and they spoke out against this development, fearing that college housing was going to take over swaths of their neighborhood. They literally used this law, stating the city can’t be allowing developers to build units with more than 3 bedrooms. The city council still green-lit the developers and the 4 unit developments have been open now for 5 years without any city code violations presented to the property owners or the tenants. The law is unenforced and will likely be removed or amended.

So cool! Let’s name the Arena League team after this!

This is rhetoric. The hotel of terror doesn’t fit in the City’s vision for daylighting/naturalizing the creek. Bear in mind, this project should actually be called “man-made creek” because that’s all it is going to create; ever since the creek was channelized and tunneled, the water table dropped beneath the surface and the creek only appears during storm water floods. But sure, spend millions for making a man made creek.

The City is going to spend +$40 million on this project. Anybody with neighboring property is going to see their property double in value. The project will revolutionize the image of downtown. Hotel of Terror does not fit into that image. The options for municipalities to get rid of unfavorable land uses: pay market value…or claim some street/city improvement and condemn. The latter is the cheaper.

I hope we get 1 more Halloween season with hotel of terror. I’ve never been, but it’s a Springfield staple.

EDIT: I keep 5G on. For iPhones, turning on Low Power Mode turns off 5G so it picks up LTE. Depending on the city you are in, LTE can be quite slow. In KC the LTE is kinda slow the last few weeks, but in SGF and STL it’s been fine for me. Idk if LTE is being retrofitted up in KC or what. And back in Dec I remember going into Low Power Mode in SGF and having crazy slow LTE, I think it even dropped to edge. As long as I’m on 5G tho my speeds have been fire

Bass Pro (fortune#400?) and O’Reilly Auto Parts (fortune#315) are HQ’d in Springfield. Both have a ton of financial positions from clerical/data entry, to processing/leads/auditors, all the way to top financial positions!

Edit: you can email their HR and ask that a recruiter review your resume and chime in on what positions they have posted and not-posted that you should keep an eye out for. A seasoned staffer who specializes in filling positions with your background should be able to answer this 👍🏽 (but HR has had a ton of turnover, so don’t get discouraged if no one answers)

I’m surprised about the expensive part 🤔 I’m not a Springfield advocate, I’ve definitely voiced my frustrations with STL, KC, and SGF. But I’m bottom of middle class, I don’t really spend on anything, and I find SGF to be very affordable compared to the rest of the state/country. Same amenities as STL/KC (except for concerts and pro sport entertainment) for much less cost of living. My coworkers are all super nice, and so are the staff at stores and restaurants. Other than that, I only interact with college friends and people at bars, who are all great as well!
