It was a crock, brought on by some multinational, just out for a buck imo.
There are only so many notes, so many chords and so many combinations of them.
The entire music industry is based on this sort of thing, artists know this and consequently tolerate minor semblences. People who have no other talent, tend to clutch at this sort of thing.
