The symptoms aren't caused by the same disease over and over. The symptoms are what your body does to fight the virus or bacteria. The cough and sneeze and sniffles are all intended to help your body expel the invader, the fever is an attempt to bake it to death or slow it's reproductive cycle so it can be fought.
Most of the diseases that affect the respiratory system will have very similar symptoms despite being different diseases.
That being said, the rhinovirus goes around, but much like how there's a new COVID Variant every few months, there's a new rhinovirus every few months. You won't catch Rhinovirus A if you e already had it but it's been a very successful virus and has a large family of variations and you might catch any that you haven't already had.

Reply to ELI5, why do viruses and bacteria have many of the same symptoms when they infect a human? by tapeness
Strictly speaking, it's not the virus causing the fever or the sniffles and sneezing. Your body does these in response to the viral or bacterial threat. Raise body temperature in an effort to literally cook the invader to death. Sneeze to expel the invader, etc.
We only have so many symptoms to go around because our bodies can only respond in so many ways.

Reply to Eli5: What is Gish galloping and how do you discern it from an actual debate? by ZookeepergameWaste94
It's overwhelming an opponent with too many arguments to respond to all of them accurately, regardless of the validity of the arguments.
Actual debate would allow your opponents to address each point before bringing in additional points.
Note that it's not about providing many sources, or many agreeing examples, but many different supporting arguments or points, "facts" etc.
Frequently Ancient Aliens uses this, a single story about one theory might have dozens of examples or narrated questions that are never really individually supported or even acknowledged again. Ex:"could it be that Stonehenge was the work of aliens? Are druids related to aliens? Is the loch Ness monster an alien experiment gone wrong?" All in a rapid succession without further discussion.

Reply to ELI5: How do police tow cars with tow away protection activated without the alarm going off? by Agitated_Potato_3052
The don't care about the alarm going off.
Think about it this way: in theory, people hear a car alarm, look, and if they see a crime, they call the police. So now the cops are towing a car, the alarm goes off, people look and what? Call the cops and report that the cops are towing a car please send more cops?
In practice, people don't look for car alarms to report theft. But you know, in theory....

There's considerable overlap between the smartest bear and the dumbest human camper.
