When I worked as a mechanic in my teens in west philly my boss had me to do this to park customer cars on the street to not get tickets, and nothing happened. Apparently ppa and the cops couldn’t do anything about it without a vin.

Today I just take my plate off and block my vin on my daily beater because I don’t want parking tickets. Otherwise it is registered, insured, inspections up to date. I’ve never gotten one nor have been towed and I park in a ppa zone. My weekend car, off-road truck, and motorcycles are in the garage so the plates stay on those. There really is zero enforcement of this. Plenty of other cars with visible plates to cite instead of wasting all this time on one without it.

Also can anyone show me where in the city code does it say they can tow away cars with vins blocked? If they could they would remove half the cars in south and west philly.

I’m sure I’ll get hate for it but I’m telling it how it is. Sure the city can use their one helicopter to track cars but fuel is expensive and I know they’re not going to waste all that money and resources for what are going to be traffic tickets at the end of the day if you get busted. We’ve had some guys get caught but it was just fines, no points, no suspensions if you got a good traffic lawyer.

I used to be a part of the scene here and I can tell you now from experience we drivers were untouchable. The cops aren’t allowed to do anything to us unless they want to get us big paid and lose their jobs because they’re not allowed to chase for traffic stuff, the city officials don’t care because they’re probably outside the city, it was fun. I hang out with a more mature crowd now but if you’re losing your mind in January just wait until June.

I’m all for protests and it’s good that it’s an organized effort but nothing justifies a riot. I own a couple grocery stores and they were looted during the last riots, like I had anything to do with Minneapolis and Walter Wallace. If this was a hot summer month I’m sure it would get out of control.

It is, curiosity got the best of me during my walk home from the office. It’s the same people from the Democrat Socialists of America group that organizes protests around the area. I doubt riots will break out considering the 5 cops already got fired and charged with some degree of murder.

They used to use the chalk mark on your tire by what time you parked (chalk mark on the 3oclock position if you parked at 3) so you used to be able to move to a different spot just a space or two ahead. With the digital system you just have to move across the street.

Why would anyone want to be a cop here or any major city is beyond me. For most qualified applicants and hard workers departments like Philly are either stepping stones or just a way to get the certification to move on to smaller and better agencies.

As far as sitting on their ass and not doing anything big city departments including Philly are restricted in what they can do. One example in Philly is they started this program where they’re paired up with a trooper who isn’t restricted by Philly policies and consent decrees to actually make proactive efforts which won’t get thrown out in court because of local policy violations.

A neighbor of mine does loss prevention at Target. He told me that they’re not allowed to engage anyone shoplifting anymore, so corporate made contracts with the PPD. He said they just page the cop who’s typically standing by the entrance on a walkie talkie to stop a shoplifter, then the processing gets started right there.

Genuine question most times because a lot of them don’t have watches or phones, so they really have no idea what time it is. The other is to catch you off guard when you inevitably look down when you’re face down on your phone.
