Read Taking Berlin by Martin Dugard, but didn’t enjoy it as much as Taking Paris. The parts about Patton and Martha Gellhorn were super interesting I’ve never read about Gellhorn before and she’s a fascinating individual. The rest was very disjointed and it was almost Russia, Russia, Russia bait with the Russiagate conspiracy thrown in at the end. I hate communism, but the Soviet contribution was barely there and what was seemed thrown in as an after thought. Which makes no sense because the Soviets actually capture Berlin. Altogether, a little disjointed but a solid read.

That’s actually what started my interest. Agreed, it’s a great podcast, too many breaks though.

Short, simple, easy reads. More like good introductions into the major events/points of each topic, not really a deep dive or anything new.

Read Taking Pairs: The Epic Battle for the City of Lights by Martin Dugard this week. Solid book, not super in depth, but did a nice job hitting major events and giving various perspectives of many of those involved. I did like that it had some information from the perspective from Charles de Gaulle however. I don't know a whole lot about him because he seems to often get glossed over in many WWII books. Going to read Taking Berlin by the same author this week.

Just got back into reading history books, and had to join reddit for this thread. Does anyone have any good recommendations on the Spanish Civil War? I am trying to find one that is fairly non-biased showing the violence and hatred of both sides.
