I don't think people understand how widely used PFASs are. They're almost in every waterproof jacket you can buy. Even ones that say "no PTFE" they just use a technically different but very similar chemical which is likely just as bad.

It's also in a lot of dental floss, skincare products, take out food packaging, non-stick pans, etc. it’s impossible to avoid completely.

I don't think the most advanced plastic surgery needs to be available to all people.

Jay Leno is a talk show host and his appearance is important for his career and for everyone that works for him. I'm a programmer. If I get 3rd degree burns, I don't need the $1m latest cutting edge, option. Take care of the burns, minimize the scars as best you reasonably can, and that's ok.

And realize that by paying for the very advanced, $1m option, Jay is helping to advance that technology and it will become cheaper over time.

The city has some good information about them here:

https://www.cambridgema.gov/CDD/housing/forhomebuyers/coops

Fundamentally, the difference is that if you buy a condo, you're buying a specific unit and it's yours. With a co-op, you don't technically own your unit; you own a % of the co-op which owns the building and you also have the right to live in the unit. This gives the co-op board more control.

One reason why they're not very popular in Massachusetts is that they can be harder to get mortgages for. It also can be harder to sell your unit because the co-op board often has to approve any buyer before the sale goes through.

I'd vote to allow social and public interest events like block parties, music shows, lectures, political rallies, etc.

I think self-promotion is fine as long as it's disclosed and the same things isn't posted too frequently. For example, if someone on this sub is putting together a Mexican cooking class, I'd like to hear about it. But if they run a class every Sunday, they shouldn't post about it more than once every 6? months or so.

I didn't realize that. I assumed because Boston and Somerville did, Cambridge did as well. Googling it, it looks like the city has been considering it. Once obstacle is it violates the surveillance tech ordinance:

> In 2018 and after two years of discussion, Cambridge passed a comprehensive Surveillance Technology Ordinance that at the time was one of the “most collaborative and progressive in the nation and the first of its kind on the East Coast.” > The goal of the ordinance was to ensure city government doesn’t engage in unwarranted surveillance, said then-Councilor Craig Kelley. > While police cruiser dashboard cameras are exempt under the ordinance, body worn cameras are not.

Police should release the body cam footage, but based on witness accounts and everything we know is there any evidence they did something wrong?

The eye witness who called the police said Faisal jumped through a glass window with a machete and was cutting himself. He then ran around the neighborhood and wouldn’t put the knife down.

I think we should start by assuming they're doing their jobs. While there are a lot of shady PDs, CPD does a good job overall.

There's body cam footage, witnesses, and physical evidence, and the DA is investigating. If those show suspicious things, then the cops should be questioned. If not, let's support the people who have to respond to calls of machete wielding attackers jumping out of windows.

I don't get all the negativity towards the police. Are the issues with policing? Definitely. But a bloody guy with a machete was running around. This is exactly why we have CPD and it's not an easy job on calls like this.

Any evidence that happened in this case?

There was a bloody guy with a machete running around a residential neighborhood. Unless more details come out to support it, I'm not going to jump to conclusions that CPD are at fault.

You might not like it, but the science is clear that it's much better to cut the trees down. Mature trees don't help that much with CO2 capture and a 31 acre plot like this one will be tiny. Generously, it's 15 tons of CO2 / year. That's about the same as what 4 cars generate in a year.

Adding 31 acres of solar to a grid that's mostly fossil fuels right now, will have a much, much bigger impact.

NIMBYs always say "I'm not trying to kill the project, I just X". But, the problem is there are 50 people and they all have their own X. And if you do everything they're "just" asking for, it kills the project. One person wants 800 trees planted, another wants a 50' buffer on the edges, another wants construction to only be weekdays between 9 and 4:30pm, another wants the entrance moved to change traffic flows, etc.

At some point, we need to say, this is their land, let them use it. Especially if it's for solar. We badly need more clean energy generation for our grid.
