Its just dot and dab with masonary behind it. It is a new build home though so unfortuantely its breeze block that is the layer I was going into and crumbles way too easily.

Thanks for the advice. I think move it or go for slightly longer / bigger screws may help.

It was just to get them to push through the plaster and gap and into the brick before then scrwing them in for a tight fit.
