It could be that their DD quality or housing design just isn't there yet. If either DD can't handle exclusive bass-sub or mid-high range, they'd have to choose a different cutoff. Just speculation.

I'm not really impressed with Chifi other than Hifiman performance (not QC). As others have said, the IEMs seem way more hypetrain & waifu/otaku obsessions than high performance + high quality audio gear.

Fair point. I've had a few DAPs before but their OS performance was never smooth and battery life pretty abysmal.

Not really interested in the Chinese market either.

I think HiFiMan products are pretty interesting. Crazy price points for performance. Having trialed a lot of their products, I woudn't mind owning one, but they have got to get their QC under control.

Moondrop and HiFiMan smh.

I'd far rather save my money and get a more reliable product.

Curious about what else you tried.

I just found the Meze 99s aethetically nice, but not built to really keep those aesthetics. The metal was tarnished and I did not like the looseness of the cups.

It's a journey, man.

Years ago, I got Grados SR225s after trialing them for a week from a friend. I then years later got DT990s blind because they have more bass. There's a whole world out there. I eventually wanted detail first and foremost. It's a bitch sometimes because you can hear overcompression so easily, but for a lot of stuff it's glorious.

My advice is to try as much as possible because you don't know what's out there or how comparable it is until you listen to it. Find your preferences. Listen to music and enjoy it!

You'll learn first hand why planars are different than dynamic drivers. Which you prefer. etc. Enjoy it.

Meze 99 did absolutely nothing for me even in that price range.

I would find a shop where you can trial tons of headphones. I have to take a speed train, usually spend a weekend out of the house, and travel a bit by local trains just to get to one, but I do it. It has informed all my buys.

I bought DT990s blind. If I had been able to compare to others across price ranges, I would have skipped.

Now very happy with my small collection.

I think a big problem of theirs is the open back design.

I have a feeling it was for safety or convenience (for the flight attendants). Whenever I would push them back into my ears the frequency response drastically changed for the better (but obviously still not great.

I wish whoever measured them would measure again with the ports covered just for kicks.

I watch one movie with them before switching to the ier-z1r (not provided by Delta).

These Delta in ears are just insane. Super resonant. Nasty mids only. You can barely hear dialog because the frequency response emphasizes so much else.
