Why is it that this sub is so confident predicting that certain jobs will go away soon when it has the most vague idea of what those jobs actually consist of?

This is total bullshit. There are countless people who are deeply in love with their partners, so much so they they consider them "perfect" just for them.
Who the fuck wants a companion that's just kissing your ass 24/7?
And have you ever considered that people may want to hug and touch their partners? How the hell would you do that to a chatbot?

I agree that that book is likely going to be different than the previous ones (just like the previous ones were different than the ones that came before them), but I hope for three things:
1.That the book is authored by all of humanity, not just one industry.
2.That the book is a genuinely happy one.
3.That the book is pretty long. I cannot emphasize how important it is that change needs to be gradual, for the sake of society.

The world that we live in is very flawed, but this comment strikes me as very misanthropic and very hateful of life in generaI, I must confess, which I find very disturbing.
There are many aspects of being a human that are amazing, and I believe most people are genuinely good people, and even if you don't, there are at least some undeniably good people out there.
Therefore, I find this seemingly total hatred against humanity very misplaced.

GPT3 is very similar to ChatGPT, to my knowledge, and that had been out since 2020, 2 years before the survey.
>most people hadn't used gpt 3 before that.
The people who were surveyed were researchers and experts who most likely had familiarity with GPT3.
I don't really think the advent of ChatGPT would have shortened timelines all that much had the survey been conducted after it was released, if I'm being honest.

If this sub is correct (which there's no way to know for sure since no one knows what the future holds exactly), then maybe.
If not, then things will probably be somewhat more tame than expected by the people here.
I just hope whatever change does come is both positive and gradual.

>UBI needs to be implemented in the next 2-3 years.
Respectfully, I think this is a bit of an overreaction.
The unemployment rate is at a historic low right now and as impressive as technological progress has been the last few years, I think you're seriously overestimating how fast that progress is made and how fast it is adopted by organizations.
And in regards to UI designers, someone on this thread pointed out how this is AI only automates the most basic aspects of the job.
Edit: I've noticed I'm getting downvoted. I'm just going to say one thing: if you wholeheartedly believe an universal basic income will be a necessity in just 2-3 YEARS, you're not thinking rationally. 2-3 years is nothing.
You guys just love upvoting comments that sound nice to you (even if they're crazy) and downvoting comments that don't sound nice to you (even if they make sense). That's my main gripe with this sub. Emotion supercedes logic here.

I mean, they can of course be biased, but at the end of the day they know the most about what their jobs entail and how easy/hard it is to automate certain programming tasks, not to mention that some are also at least somewhat familiar with AI, which makes their answers more credible.

And this is coming from someone who thinks the government should invest more in AI/robotics. But investing all of it? That would be insane.
