I actually like the notch visually, though I appreciate what they did with the dynamic island in terms of functionality.

Seconding this.
What makes you think the predecessor would be a better model than the current pro max, OP? It’s not. It is however a perfectly good phone.
My opinion is, if money isn’t an issue, go for the 14 Pro Max. Get what you need and want now, there’s always going to be a newer model around the corner. In this case, the 15 isn’t even around the corner yet. Not even if you manage to snag one in release (and those things are going to be in short supply for several months after release, too, so factor that in.)

It will get supported for longer by Apple. As in, will get Updates longer, because it’s newer. Though to be fair, the A15 will get supported for a while yet, too- to judge by Apples excellent update policy.

Not a huge deal.. think widget-y gimmick.

I thought the same, then FOMO got to me. Now the Pro Max features are starting to woo me, too. The camera is kick ass, even I was happy with the one on my Plus too, (before I tried the pro.)

It depends. I had a Plus, ended up passing it to a family member and getting the Pro Max, so I have some comparison.
The Plus is lighter, no real flaws that I can tell. Takes decent pictures, is a solid phone all around. Great battery life.
The Pro Max is the flagship, has the newest and best (newest chip, dynamic island, better cameras..) you have to look at your own use case / personality and decide from there. If your old phone performed well enough for you already, and you’re in the market for a smaller upgrade which isn’t groundbreaking, go for the Plus.
If you, like me, are prone to FOMO, want the best for the sake of having it and can afford it, need the features or find a good deal on the Pro Max in s configuration you want, go for it. Also if you keep your phones for a longer time, as the A16 chip will be supported for longer than the A15 in the Plus.
Hope I could help a little with my 2c.

I just got my 14 Pro Max… the store clerk explained it to me and from where I’m standing now, it looks like a better widget. Can see myself ignoring it, mostly.

I mean, I have a Plus and I love it, but it looks like you might be better served with a Pro.

Many of those problems will be gone in a few software updates.. still not even in the slightest a reason to opt for last years model if you don’t already have it.
