A GoFundMe has been organized to support the family of Jersey City Police Officer Noel Santiago Jr., who passed away on March 24 after a battle with cancer. He was 43 years old and is survived by his wife and three sons; ages 4, 2, and 1.

Santiago’s wife organized the GoFundMe and shared, “To know Noel was to love him. He built friendships with almost everyone who he came in contact with because of his kind spirit, generous nature, and witty banter. He always made himself available to anyone who needed help or a listening ear; he was a protector to all. For these reasons and so many others, being a police officer was Noel’s calling. He had a way of connecting with people and driving them to do better and be better.”

The Jersey City Police West District also shared the fundraiser and stated, “Over the weekend we lost a brother and friend. The Go Fund Me was created by his wife, Stephanie. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Santiago family, especially to his wife and kids. Rest In Peace Noel!”

To view the GoFundMe page, visit the Go Fund Me page here. A total of $45,305 has been raised of out of their $100,000 goal from 284 donations.

Yes and great lines from the NYT’s 1975 review….

“Once, most cities had restaurants like The Alps: solid, unpretentious and expertly run. They have been replaced by anonymous chains, those where fast‐food operations are dressed up to resemble real restaurants. The food is frozen and tasteless, the atmosphere gimmicky and gauche. Places like The Alps have all but disappeared in this country. Perhaps, we prefer spurious “atmosphere” and plastic food to good meals in unpretentious surroundings.”

The Alps was one of the go to JC restaurants for family occasions like graduations, birthdays, etc. As the NYT’s review says in the 70’s the patrons were older.

The area was getting kind of shady and the old-timers had worries getting to it. So as I recall the owners started a door to door limo service. They hired off duty cops as drivers. Great idea at the time…pre Uber.

Do a Google maps satellite search of your area to see if anyone has solar on their roof on attached houses.

If so contact the owner and ask who did it, is it saving money, etc.

You mentioned downtown I see some on 197 York near Marin Blvd. on one roof in a row of attached houses. Also on 143 Grand on a attached row house.

Interesting not many in JC I see a few up Journal Square on unattached houses. (you would think you would see more DT ..younger home owners)

(saw this piece on PIX11 News. Funny reminds me of when I was little in JC. Many people would get fresh eggs delivered to their doorstep from a NJ farm each week. At Easter time the farm would sale little live chicks. We would set up pens in our yards for them to run around. After about a week kids would get bored with them, and if they survived (sad) they would be returned to the farm. Sort of like a rental in disguise farmer probably knew they would be returned lol)

Rent The Chicken service brings hens, fresh eggs to your own backyard

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. (PIX11) – You might not ever figure out whether the chicken or the egg came first, but it doesn’t take a philosopher to see the price of eggs has flown the coop.

“Now with the price of eggs, having your own guaranteed eggs in your backyard is great,” said chicken farmer Marlena Schilke.

One solution people are turning to? Renting chickens.

Rent The Chicken is a nationwide company, with affiliates all over the United States and Canada.

Schilke is the Northern New Jersey affiliate.

It starts with a call to the company. From there, you get set up with your local affiliate. Packages with everything you need to care for the birds start around $600 for the season, which begins in April and goes through October.

Cook some Tripe Soup (flaczki) my Polish grandmother used to whip up a batch for the holidays. (never tried it) I don’t think there is any worse of a smell then tripe cooking. There are even internet horror stories about the stink. Kielbasa and Sauerkraut cooking might be a close second. (but I love it)

>And I'm glad the Loews fought to get an agreement that keeps some dates for community events and arts, because the original plan to just turn it over to a multi billion dollar company with little oversight and barely any events for community use was ridiculous.

Huh? The original 2014 AEG deal that was sadly cancelled because the FOL would not give up their lease had a guaranteed number of community events in it.
