Reply to LPT: if someone you know has lost a family member unexpectedly, particularly a younger one, do not bring up the death of your grandparents to compare. by idigthewig34
It's natural for people to try to let you know how they "understand" what you're experiencing. It's nearly always a bad idea. Frankly, it's not great listening skills at the very least. At worst, it's just terrible. If you're aware of something going on with someone, just be a shoulder if you can. Don't offer an example of your experience.

I just don't answer. Period. I've noticed when I answer(at all) they proceed to call for DAYS straight.

Reply to comment by dfreinc in LPT: If you call a company to speak to customer service but the automated menu won't let you talk to a real person, say "Upgrade my account" instead of "Refund" or "Cancel," when the automated menu asks you to state why you're calling. You will immediately be transferred to a real person by BigSpoonFullOfSnark
