As an armchair observer (is there any other kind?) - it seems that the goalposts have been moving for more than 30 years now.

The closer we get the further the goalposts will be moved.

We will have AGI before we have consensus that it exists.

The AGI will announce itself and various humans will acknowledge it’s presence - all the while many will claim it has not passed this or that test.

It will be highly controversial long after the AGI has accelerated it’s knowledge base well past any human, or even group of humans.
