British Prime Minister Winston Churchill privately criticized the use of napalm in Korea, writing that it was "very cruel", as US/UN forces, he wrote, were "splashing it all over the civilian population", "tortur[ing] great masses of people". He conveyed these sentiments to U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Omar Bradley, who "never published the statement". Publicly, Churchill allowed Bradley "to issue a statement that confirmed U.K. support for U.S. napalm attacks".

So privately against but wouldn't make that public. He did well for the UK during the war but he was not good person and would be ostracized if he were around today.

I understand we're (Europe) aren't in a great position to cut this off at will as we're too dependent on the supply. If I have it right it's not just about switching to a more expensive supply but actually not having the supply to meet demand which could harm us more than Russia.

I freely admit I've not looked into this exhaustively mainly laziness and the fact I've got not influence about what happens here until and election comes up at which point I'll be looking at the various situations that batter to me.

It's been too many years since I read it but I'd say there are happy people in 1984. There will be people that believe in the system. There will be people in a loving relationship. There will be people who are so inured to the system and the restrictions they don't even think about how it could be different. I think Pratchett said something like "Normal is yesterday, last week, and last month averaged out." People are fantastic at seeing things as 'normal'.

I seem to remember being taught that there should be equal amounts of matter and anti matter in the universe but there isn't. As when they meet both undergo annihilation the possibility is that this occurred early on in the universe and there was an excess of matter over antimatter. I was taught that were not sure why.
