I'm late to the party on a downvoted thread, but here are my two cents:
If a random person can't sew the flag, it's too complicated. A flag is a piece of cloth that's generally fifty feet off the ground - it's best to construct something that works for that purpose.
The argument "I think it looks good" falls flat on this grounds - one might think the Mona Lisa looks good, but it would not make a good flag.
People arguing that Council has better things to do - this is literally never going to be on their agenda, so why waste energy arguing from that perspective? Philadelphia hates change so much that we got pissed we might kill fewer kids on Washington Ave. To not kill kids was too much change for Council. Why can't we have a little fun thinking about new symbols for the city, even if it won't happen?
To sum up: I think it should change, I know it won't change; you're allowed to have fun.

I don't think you're missing anything, though for West Philly, if you're already taking the El / Trolleys, take them 1 / 3 more stops to City Hall (for Suburban Station).
West Philly has better access to Fishtown via the El, if nightlife there is important to you. South Philly has better access to the stadiums if you're interested in sports. By "better access" I just mean you don't have to change services.
Please also reconsider having a car in the city. There's no need for one unless you enjoy paying insurance premiums on a parked car.

A friend mentioned this post as I didn't get pinged.
Depending on what you want out of it, I've heard recommendations for Blue Stoop and the Philadelphia Writers Workshop.
I do run a group, but at this point it's more of a social club.

What's the saying? Do one illegal thing at a time? If you're going to rent out a spot without a license, be the best landlord a tenant can have.
Assuming you're in the city, my understanding is: it was illegal for your landlord to collect rent from you and you are legally entitled to get all eight years of rent back. Get a calculator and decide if it's worth finding a lawyer to sue them (hint: probably yes).

You couldn't determine that from looking out a window? That's what I did.

Ah, so its the central hub people that tell the Frankford-bound El drivers to take a left go northbound
instead of going straight to New Jersey. Never knew!
edit: I'm catching on!

If you're on desktop (I don't know if this works on mobile), some browsers allow you to restrict javascript from certain URLs. That will solve the issue going forward.

I'm here to downvote you for complaining about downvotes.
Obviously not downvoting you for complaining generally, else I'd have to do that in every thread. Have you ever posted something positive?
