Exactly! Santoro's Pizza over in castle shannon has a pretty wild pie they call The Blue Pig that is most definitely an original pie, closer in spirit to what Caliente won with than what they actually sell.

I've got no problem with specialty pies, but Caliente leans waaaay too hard on that award when in reality they sell a pretty middling experience with every other pie.

But hey, there's really no rules in advertising these days.

I think what's hard to judge in food competitions like this is consistency- I won't say it's easy to win a competition because that's wildly inaccurate, but I do think it's easier to put your best foot forward in a contest than it is day to day over and over.

If you're looking to take home a prize, you're gonna sweat the details a lot more than when you're just cranking out pie after pie on a saturday night. I've had incredible pies from Fiori's and I've had mediocre underbaked ones from them as well. But I keep going back because the overall hitrate is good.

Meanwhile Caliente is happy to brag about their world championship pizza– which was a pretty bizarre fancy pie that I'm not sure you can even consistently buy– but I tend to avoid buying from there because the everyday pie is just average at best.

I find most of the drivers are pretty good, but the ones that do shit like this are almost always driving the double buses. I guess go big or go home.

I hear your point, but most parks close at dusk, are reliant on weather, require being somewhat nearby, etc. Going the park is not "weird" but it doesn't hit the same itch for a lot of folks as going to hang out somewhere late at night when the rest of the world is quiet. I don't think it's quite as simple as "people don't enjoy their lives unless money is changing hands"- you shouldn't need to pay money to have a good time, but there's also nothing inherently wrong with throwing a couple bucks somewhere.

what you're looking for are soapstone tables- they're super cool! A lot of schools threw them out in the past decade or so because soapstone can contain asbestos. Well, what we call "soapstone" at least. It's not really a big deal unless you're grinding down the table or generating dust, but you know... people worry.

They're super cool though, I always keep my eyes peeled as well. I've definitely seen a few at construction junction over the years.

Yes, I’ve been a handful of times.

They do a variety of things for the virgin ritual- the first time I went back in 2015/16 it was pretty fun on the whole. We went again in 2019 and it was… not as fun. It’s absolutely meant to be an obnoxious romp, but it was pretty much just high schoolers shouting fuck the whole time without any real comedic value.

that said, it’s still a fun experience!
