Yes! And all those beachy “back shack” apartments/houses are rented out at a premium price between Memorial Day and Labor Day. After Labor Day they will often switch to a 9-month rental at lower, more affordable price.

Everyone that I know in my town that has an ADU is listing it as an AIRBnB, not as a regular rental.

This one was a cabin that was never winterized. That’s why it was so cheap.

Bought the smallest, crappiest, ugliest little cheap piece of shit house in a gorgeous beach town. Spent 6 years slowly renovating it until it was a sweet little gem. Sold it in year 7 and was able to use the proceeds for other home.
Also, dual income no kids.

For the best ski experience don’t go on a weekend or holiday week. It will be too crowded.
Most every ski resort has beginner “learn to ski” packages where they provide all the equipment, lift ticket and lesson for first-timers. Be aware it will take you probably 4 or 5 days of practice to become comfortable on skis.
Regarding where to go, Poconos probably. I’ll let others chime in. I only ski in Vermont or out West.

Asbury Park is the hip place to be…..however if you can’t find housing there you could try Ocean Grove (quieter, very pretty) which is right next to AP. You can very easily walk to all the clubs and bars in AP and then walk home.

Cooper’s Riverview would work, and Revere or Erini if you can travel outside of Trenton a few miles.

Reply to Can somebody familiar with NJ bus transit tell me if this commute to NYC is feasible? by [deleted]
Yes, this is doable! I know that bus (137). It goes from Toms River Bus Depot directly to Port Authority in 1 hour and 35 minutes. Very doable, very comfortable. So convenient since Port Authority is close to Broadway.

Reply to comment by Zaiik in Planning to move to east orange. Is it a good place to live? by Zaiik
I had to drop a friend off there and we ended up walking about 10 blocks. I saw falling down houses with people living in them, I saw crack viles in the street, saw a guy peeing on a building (daytime) and saw drivers disregarding traffic lights meaning like a slow roll left turn at a red light. It felt lawless.

Another option…..in the area around New Hope, Lambertville, Stockton, Washington Crossing, etc. there are lots and lots of art galleries that have original paintings by local NJ artists on display year round. Check out www.canalframe.com

if you have the ability & energy, having a part time job during the holidays or a side hustle (like door dash) could help you build your down payment faster.

You can get there. I bought my own house as a 30-year old single gal by SAVING SAVING SAVING. I had a car with no AC, I didn’t have any kind of cable TV, only did free stuff for entertainment, and when my coworkers wanted everyone to chip in $12 for an office refrigerator I said no.
After a few years I had enough for a good down payment and bought myself the cutest little house.
You can do it!! It just takes a game plan and discipline.

Lambertville is a great town. It has a bus to NYC and 22 minutes to a train to PHilly. I actually have neighbors in your exact situation. One drives to Philly and one takes public transit to NYC.
