It had to do with the disastrous construction project that destroyed the town for years

The owner is a nutcase, but Brandon was a disaster for a long time due to the construction and no one was happy about it. Some of the Selectboard members were real pieces of shit about it too. The end result wasn't worth it and the only reason they forced it through was because Vermont was forcing Brandon to pay back the millions they gave the town for upgrades. And I say the term "upgrades" very loosely.

It was very poorly planned and executed and the town had no idea what it was getting into. It didn't effect just the center of town either. Otherwise pieceful back dirt roads had hundreds of cars and tractor trailers barreling down them for years to avoid the center of town. Back dirt roads with very little traffic like Richmond Rd and Town Farm Rd basically became state highways and were some of the most dangerous roads to drive on at the time.

It is horrible. Had to drive a box truck through there since a customer was along that road towards the top so I didn't have a choice. I had driven my regular car through there a couple years prior so figured it'd be fine (and the truck was plenty small enough to safely take the curves)

Its astounding how fast it deteriorated in those couple of years. Even the little cars behind me were bouncing up and down like mad and we were crawling along at less than 20 the whole way.

Over 10 years with my CDL and that is easily the worst road I've ever been on in Vermont other than maybe Big Hollow Road in Starksboro during a bad mud season.

I don't keep colored lights up, but I do keep the white icicle style lights up that are wrapped around my roof up year round. I only unplug them when Spring comes.

It just helps with the winter gloom, especially when you've had a long day and come home after dark.

I drive a semi truck 12 hours a day. 99% of people lower their high beams.

A lot of the people who complain about people not turning off their high beams just genuinely don't realize that most of the time the other drivers high beams are OFF. They are just more sensitive to the light or do not realize that some headlights are brighter or appear to be high beams but are not.

PS. Stop flashing your high beams at people that you think have their high beams on. As a semi truck driver that has brighter than normal headlights for safety guideline reasons, people do this a lot and it's incredibly distracting and dangerous. It's more distracting and dangerous than people who just leave their high beams on.

Imaginary highways are cool but I dream more about fixing local town traffic first. These towns are not built for this kind of traffic and it shows. Middlebury and Hinesburg especially during rush hour are undriveable.

No, you sound like you hate dogs. Yes, dogs should be treated more carefully in public than a lot of people do, but yes they are our "fur babies" and deserve as much love and respect as anyone and anything else.

Nothing worse than a killjoy who have meltdowns anytime someone says they love their dogs.

Seriously, calling people psychotic because they love their dogs and want their dogs to live a happy, fulfilled life as part of their family is some seriously childish shit. Grow the fuck up.

Not necessarily a memory I ENJOY, but...

When we were little and too dumb to pay attention to the news (back in the 90s when you'd watch that ticker at the bottom of the TV) , we only knew school was canceled because our parents told us.

Our parents told us there was school. We lived across the street from the school and all four of us (me and my three siblings) crossed the street and waited at the playground for 30 minutes. There were a few cars there so we just assumed the busses were late and that's why the lady who usually let's us in hasn't yet. After those 30 minutes the janitor sees us and tells us school was canceled.

We go home and my dad laughs and goes "oops."

Years later my mom and dad told us that they hadn't banged in a while so they conjured up this evil scheme so they had a little bit of time to pork each other.

Thanks mom and dad.

This is a lie. I literally deliver produce to around 30 different Hannaford stores between New York and Vermont and there are always different types of milk trucks there, including Hood and Monument Farms (the ones you mentioned specifically) unloading their product.

And I've personally bought Monument Farms from there as long as I can remember and well before I delivered there.
