I'm halfway through season 6 and it's a real slog.

Losing Damien Lewis basically killed this show.

First They Killed My Father is a good one we recently watched. It's not an African story though, but about the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia so it's more akin to The Killing Fields.

This one isn't a movie, but Black Earth Rising was a pretty good miniseries that covered the aftershocks that the Rwandan Genocide created decades on.
