I grew up on the North Shore and "Danvers" (we all just called it that) was a Victorian-era state mental institution still being used into at least the 70s. As children just the word "Danvers" was enough to be deeply scary.

They finally shuttered it and while the asbestos removal was going on, they allowed an indy film crew in to shoot a low budget movie. Watching that was how I finally saw the inside.

I have a friend who was married five times (he's sticking with lucky lady No. 5) and what he did between wives to find the next one was the tried and true suggestion: taking classes.

Look, even if you don't meet and match with someone in the class, taking them enriches your life and makes you a more interesting person (which will help your overall presentation).

My friend took so many! Even ballet (and he'd been a Marine 😆). There are so many great classes / workshops to take! Look for workshops at first -- you know, the one-day or limited-session ones.

Cooking, wine, mushroom growing in your basement, wildflowers of Rhode Island, The Steel Yard, glassblowing, seal watching, day sailing, Save The Bay, rockhounding. Volunteer to be an usher at PPAC or Trinity. Check whether AS220 has workshops.

And remember, anyone at any of the activities might not be "the one" but might have a sister who is. So just go to the activity and strive to be open and friendly to everyone there. Because any of them might know someone who's looking, too.

Good luck! ❤️

I think there's one for India Point Park for the RI native plants on the park end of the pedestrian bridge? India Point Park might be a state park, but call the City Parks Dept and ask. They should know.

Also, the rose garden in Roger Williams Park (near the Park St entrance) is maintained by a garden club.

AS220 was originally conceived as an open gallery where anyone could have a one-person show for the asking. Not sure how it works now but I doubt its core tenet had changed.

It has a cafe/bar. Just go check it out and ask. I'm sure the website has info too.

There are also gallery-like spaces. I once had a one-person show for a month at a bookstore / cafe space. Some banks also offer gallery space.

Good luck!

My brother literally did this in college in his bathtub in an off-campus apt in Boston.

All I remember about the "gin" was that it was orange and had sliced rounds of oranges floating in it. And that it was potent.

The drawback to bathtub gin becomes: where do you bathe? 😆
