Defacing the image of a loved one can be a cathartic release if there's pent up tension.
Video game violence can also be a cathartic release. Especially if there is pent up fear, or frustration, with a group of people.

Reply to The meaning crisis and language II — We need to ‘believe’ myth and metaphor in order to understand ourselves by Melodic_Antelope6490
Language is a tool used to communicate idea's and/or elicit emotions.
"traffic is flowing like a river after rain" communicates an idea. It may or may not be the best words to communicate an idea. Metaphor can be an excellent tool to use when communicating an idea. Or horrible. Details matter.

Reply to The Ethics of Being Mean to Chatbots by ADefiniteDescription
Better question. Is it morally wrong to speak cruelly to a rock? Both a rock and Chatbox have no feelings.
The question which should be asked; does a human lose something when they speak cruelly to a rock or Chatbox. And the answer is, depends on the specific human, and their current specific emotional state.
