Depending on where you end up, a car-free life is very doable in DC.

Are you coming here for work or school? Will you be relying on public transportation? If so, recommend living as close to work/school as possible- or an easy metro/bus ride away. There are many walkable communities and there are others where you need a car and live half your life in traffic.
If you are coming here for work, do you know if you’ll have telework options?
You can get by most of the time with layers - long sleeve sweatshirts, down vests, hat and gloves etc. A heavy winter coat is nice, but maybe something to buy here since it’s a pain to travel with? Lots of that stuff is on sale right now too.
Good luck!

I lived in the Kelvin and thought their building management and maintenance folks were great. It's right near the stadium, so can be noisy on the front side - but I loved it!

USSS is a great place to get a foot in with the feds, but don’t stay more than 5 years. Use it as a jumping off point to become a special investigator - FBI, OIG for an agency, etc. Terrible management is well documented. More suicides at USSS than officer names on the LE memorial.
Don’t go CIA, they have a special retirement system that makes it really difficult to leave to go to another agency.
If you want to run and gun, go local. But continue your education so you can go federal after a few years. The pay and retirement is so much better. If you want to keep running and gunning, go be a US Marshal. Not an investigator, though.

Maybe Swingers? The indoor mini golf - bar place. It's close near Dupont. Always like a first date that allows for being up and moving. Also good for seeing how serious people take themselves!

What part of town are they in? Always appreciated it when a first date/meet and greet made it convenient for me.
Especially since it sounds like you haven't met - choose something that can be over quickly without much awkwardness - like HH or the coffee/walk another poster suggested. If it's not a match, easy to spend the half hour and make a graceful exit. No hard feelings for anyone.

Chevy Chase is very metro accessible. Georgetown is not if that matters to you. Also, having a car in DC is expensive. If you don't have a car - you may want to move somewhere closer to a metro station. And figure out how to use the circulator.

That location shall forever be known as "the people's drug." At least in my mind...

I see your point with the Target, but every time I go to walmart, i leave frustrated with less than I hoped for spending way more time than i planned.

I like the one on NJ Ave in the Navy Yard. It can be a bit of a scene, but they are generally well-stocked, the pharmacy is professional and friendly, and they have a decent selection skin care, makeup, hair care etc. Staff is friendly.
It is small - minimal office supplies and housewares.

If I ever get around to writing a novel - illegally converted warehouse apt above an artesian dildo factory is definitely a setting!
