Reply to How Rust went from a side project to the world’s most-loved programming language by CrankyBear
Their description of memory issues (tramples, uninitialized reads, leaks) is awful, but does anyone have any medium term experience beyond initially learning it? Am considering it for future work projects.

That's an incredible turnaround based on 'knowledge is power'. Genetic risk=extra vigilance.

That's a great question. Online search says its from the Greek meaning generative and before that, origin.
So probably means the same sort of thing but the later discoveries took that name as well.

And to be clear, 'you' don't make changes to the parameters, or check the output: Its all done by a computer program in a loop and because you need lots of input data then it can take a long time.

We did functional programming in uni in the 90's. Was niche then. Powerful for some things but unintuitive. Probably no different now.

What's the definition of 'mapped'? I've seen global sea depth maps and presumably they have been mostly covered by depth surveys/sonar at some point or another. On land 'mapped' normally means recording the topography (roads,, buildings, forest, rivers) but for the seabed, what do you record? Depth? Depth and material? Salinity? There's not much to map.

I still cringe at hanging up on a poor british lady with Parkinson's because I thought she was from an Indian call centre.

That's useful, though the example for interface segregation could be tweaked because I appreciate that both my laptop and phone are charged by USB-C.
