The boxplot underneath is a nice touch -- but only if you know what it is (and having it horizontal makes it look like a timeline. Putting it on the right, vertically, would make it clearer. You've also used red dots which is confusing as you also use red in the scale.
On the scale, individual years of age matter -- and I'm left counting blocks, which is awkward. Better to use buckets as most of the colors are clumped (<=13, 14&15, 16 & 17, 18 to 21, say). Fewer colors would make it easier to read the legend and see the spread. The white also makes it look like you don't have data rather than it being the color between red and blue.

Another way to present this is to show the percentiles of the actual goals scored against the percentiles of the poisson distribution. If it's a straight line, then your eyeballs at least can be happy that the distribution you've selected matches the observations at least.
