I've looked into how to fill out a fasfa without parent information and you don't qualify just for being independent. I have been completely financially independent since I was 19 and filed taxes independently since then. The Fasfa can only be filed without parents if your parents are dead, you were emancipated as a child, you were in foster care, if you are married, if you are over 24, or if you get 2 professionals (like therapists) to write letters say you were abused and have no contact with you parents. I am only 22, not married, and I'm still in contact with my mom. When I talked to financial aid about my situation they said I'd have to wait til I turn 24 or get married. The system sucks.
I am already working 2 jobs (about 60 hrs per week) to afford rent, school, food etc. I really can't work any more than I already do without failing my classes. I can't get student aid either because my parents won't give me info for the fasfa. I have been trying to avoid student loans as long as I can because they will have to be private student loans which sucks. I have gotten some scholarships but only enough to help with tuition not enough to cover everything.
yeah, I think I might have already srewed myself over because I can bearly make the minimum payments. At think rate, it will take me like 14 years to pay it off and I'm supposed to go to vet school in like a year.
The only thing I can think of is if I get student loans to pay for all of my living expenses and use almost 100% of my income to pay it off. its not like I'm going to pay for vet school without massive loans anyway.
