Ricky Gervais is a really good actor. His monologue at the end of Extras is amazing.

I agree with some of this. It did feel a bit overly familiar and that Max Richter music is a bit of a cliché at this point. I still think it was a good episode though.

Happy Valley. The Jake Bugg song is good but it's not a good fit for the show. It's like they just heard the lyrics and went with it without thinking about whether it will match the tone. It's too upbeat and a better fit for a comedy series. You'll watch someone die and it will cut to this song. It's quite jarring.

I did find the payoff pretty satisfying, but if you couldn't get through the first episode then maybe it's just not for you. I will say that the show basically flips genres almost every episode, so you might start to like it more.

In the UK It depends on what union agreement the company uses for their project. Have a look here. I have no idea what the differences are in other countries though.

In the UK they can. They would just be given a supplementary fee and called a featured extra. They don't have to be credited for having dialogue.

Not true, at least in the UK. You can be hired as an extra and then be given a supplementary fee if you are given some dialogue. Then you are considered a featured extra but still won't have your name in the credits.

They definitely can have dialogue. Sounds like OP is referring to actual actors that just had really small parts though.

Mixed feelings about this show. It has great visuals and an incredible score. The story wasn't bad but it was very oddly structured. It does mostly come together at the end but it was still too disjointed for my taste. I struggled a bit to connect with the characters also.

Never in the history of entertainment have you needed to see the prequel first. That wouldn't make sense.

Enjoyed the first episode. Chris O'Dowd plays the everyman very well. The premise is quite thought provoking. I'm wondering how much this show is going to lean into the potential mystery sci/fi aspect, or if it's mostly just going to be comedy focused on the characters. Hoping for a nice balance between the two.
