to expand on what others have said. this was pre electric fridge freezers. so to keep them cool they would have ice imported to chop up and put in big boxes that were kept cool by the ice

£80 is the price uk, would've thought it to be similar over the pond. the coiled cable looks really legit, as does the jack end. as you said, sound/build quality is great so i wouldn't worry if i were you
