I can't find it right now but there was a selection from an earlier version of the script which absolutely nailed the cosmic horror element of the story absent from the copy-of-a-copy Stranger Things treatment we got. It would have gotten a terrible Cinemascore rating and been limited to cult classic status though.

In the book Pennywise is more of an elemental force corrupting the town, and there's a good force (represented as a space turtle) trying to help the kids defeat him.

They basically assigned almost all of Mike's character traits and big moments to other characters, what a bummer that was.

It was barely adapted at all for the movies IMO. There's so much more depth and potential to the story than made it to screen. Everybody just dumbs it down to "in the book there's a space turtle, lol, cocaine amiright?"

I think something changed with him, I don't think it's a consequence of the format change or anything like that. The spark just isn't there. It's like a TV show has depression.

The usual punching bag of "anybody who wants to change things beyond the arbitrary progress I've taken for granted is the worst thing I can imagine."

I'm there for the action and Keanu (and Reddick and McShane), absolutely. But the actual plot of 3 is so incoherent it kind of kills the stakes. Few things the characters do really make sense and they set up these big stakes and kind of ignore them.
Feels like we jumped the shark at Wick shooting that guy at the end of 2 when the guy hadn't done anything nearly as bad as the villain in 1, and he'd already gone to the ends of the earth to curry the guy's favor, and knew it would rain hell on him. By 3 the entire plot is driven by characters making mercurial decisions on a whim, even if it ignores rules they said were ironclad.

John Wick is already running on worldbuilding fumes, this can't be good.

Remembering that they said they shot some kissing takes does put a bit of a wrench in my argument. I should say that a bigger problem is the discomfort I talked about, along with a dearth of genuine gay relationships in mainstream media.

Agreed, there's definitely intimacy and a sort of attraction portrayed in the show, but neither are sexual, at least not necessarily. Whether people feel baited by reading into it I don't know, but the overarching problem will always be discomfort and sexualization of male intimacy in our culture.

Hearing that melody all through childhood and then discovering the lyrics to it as an adult so you have words to put to the earworm is quite a trip.
