Ugh, I love Causa and want it to be successful but not so nationally known that it's hard to get reservations.
Seriously, good for Causa. Will probably get a Michelin star in the next edition. Certainly deserves it.

When I was growing up in Singapore this was standard practice. Though some of the artists were much better than others!

Palena had some sort of tax issues (or to be more precise not paying taxes issue, IIRC). Sad because they had the best burger in DC

The perception of danger and just the general unpleasantness of crossing the road is probably enough to reduce viability

I think if you look on the red line at Rockville or Shady Grove you’ll get more affordable options. r/MontgomeryCountyMD might have people with more specific experience of finding apartments within your price range if that’s the route you want to go. Good luck!

I’m so old I remember listening to Never Gonna Give You Up when it was first released.
I never mind being rickrolled, it’s just another chance to listen to one of my favourite pop songs of my childhood

It may not float your boat, but she's clearly a big enough fan of the President that she recognized his voice right away (which is definitely not something I think I would be able to do) and got all excited to get "just" a phone call

Nice visuals. Would be interesting to also see a chart of weight/height ratios (either BMI or just a simple ratio)

My related mildly interesting escalator-related fact is that the word "escalate" in the sense of increasing rapidly or becoming more serious is a metaphorical back-formation from the word "escalator". Until the escalator was invented we just didn't have that word.

I didn't choose my words well - not common as in they are everywhere, but "not *that* surprising to see" (from my perspective coming from Singapore previously), so mildly interesting is the right way to describe it. I do love the curved escalators though!

Z&Z is excellent (was on Bon Appetit’s Best Restaurants of 2022 national list) and their website lists places in DC that sell their Za’atar (mostly Whole Foods, but also Dawsons and Each Peach). Or you can go to the Rockville original https://zandz.notion.site/Store-Locator-328020318a0b44af93aa850c504710aa

Reply to PSA for DC drivers by mikeydhakid
Before the pandemic, I used to work in downtown DC. As I was driving home one day, a BMW driver signalled so I let him get in my lane and then got held up at the light. And while waiting I got to look around the National Mall in the glow of twilight. I saw what was then the brand new Smithsonian Museum of African-American history and its magnificent architecture perfectly lit. I saw the Washington Monument, surrounded by American flags flapping in the wind. In the distance, I could see the full moon rise, bright, luminous, and beautiful.
It’s been six years, and I'm still amazed by what I saw. A BMW driver in DC using his turn signal?!
