While I wish that traffic cameras would improve/change driver behavior in CT and elsewhere, the evidence is mixed/against improved driver behavior.

First, we don't need another administrative infrastructure that puts costs onto generally law abiding citizens. These tickets are mailed out based on your registration. If you are registered, your car is insured. Thus, there is no pressure to change the behavior of unregistered and uninsured motorists, IMHO a bigger threat to drivers at large.

Second, will traffic camera enforcement punish the driver or the owner of the vehicle? How can you prove who was driving when? In the absence of such proof, the burden shifts to fines on the owner of the vehicle. Is this what we want to do?

Third, who is paying for the tech? Will we outsource this to a private firm? How will that firm get paid? From a share of the fines levied? In CA, judges reduced fines and awarded community service which inadvertently reduced municipal, county and state revenue, making the system too costly to operate as the government had to pay for the cameras whether or not the cameras generated enough money to pay for themselves.

Fourth, what will the state do with that data from speed cameras? We've already seen the abuses with automated license plate readers. See the article at EFF about those abuses.

It sounds like you haven't yet met your annual deductible and this was billed to you after receiving the insurance discount.

Generally speaking, Yale doesn't negotiate on bills. You can risk letting it go to collections, taking the hit to your credit rating. They do have financial assistance but having insurance even high deductible insurance usually puts you out of qualifying.

Not my first choice. I'd print it on paper. Why would you want to give your photo to a cop while it was unlocked? He or she could look through it and find something else to charge you with.

If you have the paper copy and you have the police report where you reported it stolen, so long as you are only stopped for a traffic violation, you should be fine.

A better question would be will the economic impact of raising servers wages in terms of beneficial personal spending, reduced government transfer payments, increased tax revenue, etc. be better than the increased restaurant menu prices, the corresponding decreased demand for restaurants, the decreased/eliminated restaurant profitability, the decreased tax revenue, the costs to landlords of vacant locations, etc.

Sure, it would be great to raise wages. Minimum wages interfere with market forces. If you artificially set wages, you will keep capital out of markets because they won't get a sufficient return. Similarly, if wages were allowed to fall, all things being equal as no other market regulation, prices would have to fall because demand would fall as consumers wouldn't have enough to buy. It isn't always pretty on a day to day level but eventually the market corrects. Pervasive regulation prevents these mild and gradual market corrections. Every now and again, the market forces overwhelm government's efforts to regulate - see housing bubble, etc.

While it is a crime to ignore a jury summons, I don't think CT has prosecuted anyone for this crime in years and years. I'd call the jury office, explain that you just gave birth and it shouldn't be a problem.

Truer words have never been spoken. And your entire comment including the new bikes lanes is spot on. Regrettably, there aren't enough parents and grandparents doing the teaching for things like this.

From the news reports, it seems the pedestrian was clipped by one vehicle and then spun into/struck by a second vehicle. A terrible tragedy for all involved.

The comments below made me think of this poem from when I learned to sail:

This is a story of John O'Day

Who died maintaining his right of way

He was right, dead right, as he sailed along

But he's just as dead as if he were wrong.

Reply to Whole Foods by ElizaSeaME

Since Whole Foods was purchased by Amazon, my perception is reduced stock, reduced service, fewer employees and same or higher prices.

Milford is a smaller store and the traffic on Rt 1 there is often crazy. A nice drive from the shoreline to glastonbury might be nicer to a larger store.

I doubt that any are advertised by landlords for short term as you suggest. Some students will sublet for the summer but more often than not it is when they are leaving in June and the leases mostly run August 1 to July 31 so the next lease is for 15 months. Even if available, I don't think you will find anything at that price point.

Increased activity at Tweed which means increased need for parking has been met with considerable backlash by the neighbors and local government. For example: https://www.nhregister.com/news/article/tweed-new-haven-airport-parking-cease-desist-17638191.php

No good options exist yet. Because of the parking issues, I've mostly used uber to/from Tweed. YMMV
