The worst part is that these resorts will likely just employ more visa workers as opposed to local Vermonters. It's cheaper for resorts in the long run since US wages don't match US inflation and cost of living expenses. This is obviously lost on our lords and ladies in Montpelier. If you wonder why the cost of services keeps going up, it isn't so your contractor, waitress, or nurse can keep up with expenses. They're saving up enough money to leave the state.

You're 100% right, and I don't understand why you're being down-voted. Predatory species need to have some level of fear of humans to avoid animal attacks. I don't think these bizzare outraged people understand that bears are actually carnivorous when it suits them.

I try to understand how many people moving in think that hunting, trapping, and shooting are nonexistent or banned in Vermont. Or even worse, decided they should be. Are we portrayed as one large quaint suburb dotted with hip cities? We're more than wine tastings, VPR tapings, and "hobby farms" that are really just estates with a tax break. If you want tightly controlled suburbs, why not consider western Massachusetts and CT? No unleashed dogs or unenlightened rural people to ruin the vibe there.

People moving in seem to think that hunting, trapping, and shooting are banned in Vermont? It's absolutely surreal. The outside idea of the state is so different from the actual state of VT that it's mind-boggling.

It's quite sad, but this is how most of the northeast drives. The east cost kamikaze driving is just a form of social contagion that untill recently hasn't affected us in Vermont. In almost all the surrounding states, the accepted style of driving is needlessly abusive, callous, and borderline suicidal. The interstate outside of Boston is regularly 80+ miles per hour, honking and aggressively cutting each other off while tailgating. NJ Turnpike is even worse. I think it was coming here eventually one way or another.

Contact all sponsors respectfully and tell them, "You and your families will no longer be voting for them." Also, 3 local legislators may have sponsored this, but 5 out of the 8 sponsors are people who moved here and ran for office. We need to consider increased residency limitations before you can run for office and the increasingly popular idea of a state electoral college so Chittenden County alone won't make rules for a widely diverse state.

I'd say firstly, share this with as many people as possible. Secondly, the people who proposed this should never hold office again. I know many locals are in despair with state politics and no longer participate. That must change. The legislators who sponsored this bill obviously have a god complex, but Vermonters need to control our own destiny.

I'm also a life-long leftist. I think many of these folks think that giving the state and 1% a monopoly on force is somehow progressive. Or they have the misconception that disarming everyone but the cops will somehow "hurt the conservatives." Identity politics is poison.

It pains me to see people who's family's lived here for literally hundreds of years get priced out. Will Vermont have a "serf" class who can't afford to live here? Will they commute in from other states to work for the people who bought the neighborhoods they were born in? If our lords and ladies in Montpelier can offer money for tech workers to relocate here, why can't they first help the locals?

You're absolutely right about our legislators wanting local Vermonters to leave, they see us as obstacles. Chittenden county (transplants) dictates our elections I think. I also know that for many older locals their Airbnb is actually their retirement so maybe owners who are full time residents or retirees should catch a break.

Me and my freinds spoke about the vast difference between the back to the lander hippie types who came previously and the HipsterKarens who came after Covid. The hippies made good neighbors but we don't see these new people being as amicable. The other migration didn't fight their towns as soon as they moved in, attempt to shut down their neighbor's farms, pepper spray bear hunters on public land and all the other surreal crap we've seen recently.

Everyone turns their properties to Airbnbs because it can easily take over a year to evict non paying tenants in VT. It's not even part of the conversation or in the news but that's why.

We got here because the previous seasonal wealthy have bought our politicians, and in many cases actually run for office after moving here. Many or our local representatives are out of touch hipsters who simply pretend to care about blue-collar Vermonters while simultaneously hurting them with policy. "Let them eat cake" has become "Make them buy Teslas".
