I’ve been on blood of elves for what feels like years. I think I binged the first 2 too fast and overdid myself so now o just can’t get into this one as I’ve had too much Witcher 😂

I was left feeling very meh at the end….and also a bit depressed 😂 Life is to short to read books you’re not enjoying. Maybe put it aside to try again at a later date?

God I hope not, I was 25 when I read the series (ok so I read them after seeing the first film).
And I am not a “below grade” reader either.

Reply to Audiobook Lengths vs Visual Reading by AeAeR
Faster reading myself. Though I recently found if I speed up the audio usually to 1.1 or 1.2 then it’s a bit better for me coz it’s more at a speed id have a normal conversation
I find if I leave an audiobook as it is then it’s just too slow and I get bored, unless I’m on a long road trip

When I notice it’s there it’s really distracting and takes me 10 times longer to read anything. I used to read with radio or telly on in background when I was little so that probably helped me drown out my inner voice

Reply to Just finished The Dictionary of Lost Words…wow! by TPau7
Just finished it this morning and was going to see if anyone else had mentioned it.
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The storyline was also different to what I thought.
I am sad that the Gareth plotline hung on the sides for so long then was cut short by the war

I read them at uni so a bit older than the target audience. I enjoyed them. Easy to read but also found it obvious to guess who bad guys were etc who certain children were really etc.
Easy read though. And i like Greek mythology so that added to my enjoyment
Controversial but I also liked the films. Looking forward to the tv series even though I’m now in my 30s haha.

Definitely no LOTR or game of thrones either. I remember the first time I tried to read LOTR getting all the boromir and thorimir’s mixed up

Yea I remember that! I actually saw it in west end, it’s really good! Visual effects are amazing.
Emma Watson was definitely a very glamorous Hermione much to the disappointment of every buck toothed frizzy haired avid reader who saw a part of themselves in that character when reading the books

When I used to have Twitter there was always a lot of people complaining about it. There was also a lot of backlash about the description of some characters in shadow and bone, and the fact racism existed in a made up fantasy realm

Also on this topic, when white authors do put people of colour or different ethnicity in the books they are often ridiculed and criticised for various reasons so maybe they don’t want to risk this. So yes I would look for books from the list of authors of colour if you are looking for something more in particular.

Ah ok, that seems to be people moaning about the film so I’d assume most of those idiots haven’t read the book then as she is described as brown skinned in the book.
But is there anyone who moaned when the book came out that there was a black character? That’s what I assumed the OP was getting at

Olive skin is not directly white to me….unless the white person has been on holiday and gotten a nice tan.

Depends on the book. Sometimes after a really good book o can’t read for a while coz I am thinking of that book and don’t want to leave that world.
I am an adult in their 30’s

Reply to I just read Stephen King's "Carrie". I have a Doubt by Varun_shiroyasha
I always assumed that Carrie’s mam was either abused or a bit of a slut and didn’t know who the dad was ….and this is why she was a religious nut when Carrie was growing up because she was trying to wash her own sins away
Was years ago when I read Carrie (actually first King book I read) but I probably took everything about Carrie’s dad with a pinch of salt.
