Went to Rome a few years back. We walked away from the tourist areas and really enjoyed it. Much quieter and no people trying to sell you shit.

Deployed a few years ago and when we were around the Indian Ocean area the only sports our sat tv picked up was some IPL cricket. Quickly became really popular with people huddled around the TV screen, cheering for every 6 lol.
Definitely not popular in North America but it has potential.
