I got lucky and got in on a 25$ a month for life guarantee with T-Mobile home internet. It was cheap so I tried it on a whim along side my spectrum and it ended up being faster that the 80$ a month spectrum. I’m very rural so there’s little congestion but I suggest trying it out especially if you already have them as a mobile carrier.

Depending on where you are, look for Fidium, Go-Net Speed, TDS, Verizon Home Internet, RedZone Wireless.

The county has a few small tertiary hospitals and one “major” hospital at AR Gould. They can cover the basics of normal care, lab work, radiology and most emergencies. For any specialty care you’re going to be driving to Bangor. The county has few specialists due to the low population and pay for providers so most people refer to specialists down in Bangor for anything outside of general care. I would recommend your cousin contact the hospital closest to her and ensure she can establish a relationship with any needed providers prior to moving up there so she isn’t caught in a bind at the last minute.

Just to add as well, I’d they have pets you’re screwed on fixing decent vet care. Almost none of the very few clinics are taking new patients right now.

You modify the fuel system to dump too much diesel into the engine to the point that it doesn’t burn all the way and it pukes out a massive cloud of dark black smoke. It looks like a coal smoke. That where the name comes from.

If the state inspection guys don’t get on you about lack of a diesel emissions system the EPA has been becoming more and more aggressive with enforcing regulations. Do with that what you may.

I’d look into if a cash based oil company near you will deliver to get you through the winter. I too bought an old home and have seemingly had to drain my savings more times than I’d like to admit to fix a crisis. 5 years in its so frustrating but my mortgage is below market rent so like you said, I try not to feel too much animosity towards my 100+ year old fixer upper. If you get in a horribly rough spot, you can always get K1 or off road diesel at your local gas station and fill your tank 10 to 20 Gallons at a time to limp along until you can get your tank replaced in the spring. As someone in your same position, I’m hoping some good luck is headed your way soon.

I’m a T-Mobile user and I live north of Old Town. Coverage is great and because so few people up here are on it you end up getting 150+Mbps on speed tests. You also get native US Cellular roaming so when I got up to Houlton or PI I have LTE essentially everywhere. I suggest going with a T-Mobile test drive for a few days and making sure it works where you go most frequently first.

Lots of factors to apply but it mostly depends on the size of your home, the efficiency of your boiler and whether or not you’re also heating your hot water with oil. For days that are bitterly cold, which would be 10F and under you can anticipate burning between 5 and 10 gallons A DAY. This time of year it is closer to 1/2 to 3 gallons. When I first bought my home I kept a spreadsheet of every oil purchase, how many gallons it was and the price per gallon. Really, the old saying is that during heating season “Order at a quarter” to allow for up to a week before delivery can be made. Ultimately it’s your choice who you buy from and unless you go with a large oil company who does payment plans, you pay the price the market sets or whatever discount you can find through smaller cash only oil companies.

If you want more info please feel free to ask, no better thread to ask questions in.

That’s exactly where I’m at. I realize to many this might seem like a trivial question, but I’m not in a place where filling the tank for 600$ or more is feasible. If there’s a chance it’ll stay the same or go down it’s worth it. If it goes up, I’m gonna have to order more next month anyway.

100 gallon order would give me over 1/2 a tank which is 1 month + of run time if we stay at normal temps for October. I typically have to order at least 100 gallons a month between late December and March anyway so just trying my best to not sink $600+ into the tank if there’s even a remote possibility that it may go down.

Been trying to digest as much of the info as I can from the commodities market. Diesel and heating oil are just insane in comparison to gasoline right now and as much as I didn’t want to spend 400$ I went with a minimum order for 100 gallons. We will see if it was a good idea come next week. If it goes down I’ll snag another 100gal and if it goes up…..🤷
