Reply to comment by Grass8989 in NYPD Blows Overtime Budget by Nearly $100 Million, On Pace for Record | The New York City Police Department’s budget overage defies a pledge by Mayor Eric Adams to cut overtime spending by half in his first year in office. by bloomberg
But don’t they still have like 36,000 uniformed officers? 36,000 cops in 300 square miles. I mean sure there’s gonna be some extra overtime if they’re understaffed by 1000 but I can’t figure how that amounts to $100,000,000 in overtime for 1 year.
Edit: I forgot I was in /r/nyc when I questioned something about the police. Next time they spend my tax money without explanation I’ll praise it.

Reply to comment by dirtyhypebeast in New times for setting out garbage at the curb start next month to "reduce the amount of rats" by awersF
The rat problem has always existed, but it has gotten significantly worse since covid. I’m on DSNY and the rats have become a big issue. Used to see them here or there, now I see them multiple times a night. They get into the garbage, they make a mess and they carry diseases.
I don’t think this later in the night put out is gonna change anything though. Even if everyone participates and does the right thing, most recycling trucks go out on the midnight shift and rats are less likely to go for recycling bags if there’s garbage next to it. Standard garbage collection trucks are split between the day shift and the 4pm shift. So no matter what you still have garbage potentially sitting on the street for 12 hours anyway.
This solution makes no sense and I don’t think we’ll see any real change.
