Reply to TIL the first official subway train pulled out to head uptown on Oct. 27, 1904. The mayor, George B. McClellan Jr., was on hand to start the train, but was so enthralled that he held onto the silver controller handle and drove the train all the way to Broadway and 103rd Street. by mankls3
Imagine being able to do something cool like this today.
The MTA union would probably chase you off of the train

Seems like the MTA should fix the smelling problem instead of kneecapping train capacity to isolate it
