Unless you are there for something you are doing at Downeast Institute, there is not a lot at all to do. You’ll have to entertain yourself. Having spent summers growing up nearby I can assure you that there is a normal amount of thunderstorms for Downeast Maine. The months you mentioned are the nicest ones weather wise.

Have you ever tried to get somewhere quickly that’s beyond Massachusetts? It is damn near impossible. Hollywood isn’t too far off. Once spent a solid 20 hours just at Logan trying to get to Eastern Europe to my daughter. There was zero chance at Bangor or Portland. Had a family member trying to come back to Maine from New Orleans a year before Katrina in another hurricane and he had to drive to Huston TX to find a plane coming close. Seen people drive to central Ohio because it was going to take same amount of time as finding a flight.

The 1783 treaty of Paris ending the American Revolution was too vague as to the landmarks for the border between what would become Maine and Canada. The Treaty of Ghent ending the War of 1812 as it related to the natural boundaries. After Maine became a state in 1820, the timber harvest was a major source of income for the state and the Aroostook war/Pork and Beans war was a conflict over illegal logging in the area in green. The Battle of Caribou started off as a shouting match between the Mainers and the Canadians and the woke up a black bear, one side shot it and the other side accused them of firing at them so both sides started shooting at each other but missed. The Webster-Ashburton treaty settled the boundary dispute and…you all didn’t have to watch the video and just benefited from the history paper I submitted yesterday.

You will legit need a quality winter coat. If you are coming from a tropical climate I’d advise something with down. For just running in and out of buildings you will probably be okay with the combination you mentioned but there are usually a least a few weeks where the temperature/wind chill poses a real risk to exposed skin after a few minutes. If you are outside roaming cities I would bring a coat. If you are driving any decent distance in the cold you will want the coat in the car at very minimum.

Happened to me in Bulgaria. Driver who picked us up from Sofia airport worked in Rockport area in college. We had 3 mutual acquaintances and I don’t live near Rockport.
