The Elm Street Goodwill is the way to go. It's much bigger and nicer. The stuff is the same but it just has more selection because of more space. I still go to the Broad Street one sometimes but it's very tight and kinda dingy. I went to the Goodwill in Norwalk once and it's pretty good too but not as big as Elm Street.

There's one at St. John's church downtown but it's only open twice a week or so for a few hours and it's also just one small room the size of a bedroom so not a lot of stuff but they had some high quality clothes and jewelry and housewares.

There's a Salvation Army in Port Chester that's pretty big, probably similar size to the Elm Street Goodwill but spread over 3 floors. So a good amount of selection but pretty expensive.

Then there's the Rummage Room in Old Greenwhich but I haven't had a chance to check it out because of its limited hours.

I researched how to visit last summer and gave up. From what I gathered you have to buy a license online but only between 9am-5pm even though it's online? So it wasn't available when I was researching and I didn't wanna just go there and not get in.

Aside from time, also look at the cost. I looked into taking the train to Philly once for a weekend trip and it was $100+ each way. Can't imagine that making financial sense.

I also commute to FiDi and I think the other user's schedule is very optimistic. It takes me about 1h45m. 10m to the train station by bus from Waterside, 1h train ride (people will reference the 50 minute train which is the shortest one but in the morning the trains are 55-65m), 15m subway to Fulton St., 5-10 walk to the office. And keep in mind you'll need a few minutes buffer/waiting in between every part of the trip. It takes a good 5 minutes just to get from the Metro North track to the subway track at Grand Central.

The quote we got from them for dental work did seem pretty high, higher than what we paid at our Brooklyn vet for similar work. But we also got a quote from the Stamford VCA which was around the same so maybe they both happen to be expensive, or maybe that's just what it is :/

I'm guessing they saw an influx of new patients during the pandemic with more people moving here from the city and more people getting pets too.

I tried to take my dog to Bulls Head based on recommendations but their website says they don't take new patients and I never got a response to my email.

We ended up going to Spot On on Selleck St which I believe is new-ish and would recommend it. We were able to get an appointment the next day (not even for an emergency, at our vet in Brooklyn it would literally take months to get an appointment) and Dr. Larson has been super nice and thorough and responsive via email.

I'd also throw out the Waterside area as an option if you're concerned about noise and don't care about being near nightlife. It's across the water from Harbor Point. We live at Harbor Landing Apartments and mostly like it.

Our unit is close to the street and there's some noise from traffic but it's not too bad (I'm also a very sensitive sleeper) and certainly much less traffic than downtown. Units towards the back should be pretty quiet. There are also more buildings further down the street. Baypointe is nicer, more expensive and a bit further from the street as well but you also get further away from the train station so it's a trade-off.

I think the best part about the area is it's great for dog walking. There's a boardwalk that goes all the way from our building along the water down to a (small) park. Overall this side of the water seems to be a bit cheaper than Harbor Point.

Are you planning on leaving your dog at a day care while you're out at work? Then you might want to consider that location as well.

Our dog is too. We've been to Mianus River Park and Montgomery Pinetum and most dogs we ran into were off-leash even though it's illegal. And most owners don't even bother recalling their dog. Very frustrating experience. At least Mianus was big enough to be pretty empty when we went except for the area near the parking lot. Montgomery I would not go to again, off-leash dogs around every corner.

We live in Waterside and John J Boccuzzi Park has a big grass area that's empty most of the time. However, if there are people with dogs, they will be off-leash so keep an eye out.

If you're only a 5 min drive away I'd consider walking or taking a bus. The city buses are currently fare free and have been very reliable and on schedule when I've take them. BLT also operates several shuttle bus routes between downtown, Harbor Point and Waterside that are free to the public as well.

We have Optimum and it's probably the worst provider we've had out of many places we've lived. We haven't had any longer outages but it goes out for like 20 seconds all the time and you have to disconnect and reconnect. It might be a router issue but we're using the Optimum-provided router and it's only 8 months old.

I have Optimum Mobile (which we got for free for a year through signing up for their internet) and I would not recommend it. Around where we live it's fine but other parts of Stamford as well as in lower Manhattan where I work the service is terrible.

I have Optimum Mobile which I believe runs on the T-Mobile network and haven't had any issues in this area. We got it for free for a year with Optimum internet. That said, in Manhattan it's terrible.
