All valid points! And certainly troubling that there is so much secrecy around the trip and who is funding/why only certain council members were invited

I definitely don't disagree. There are certainly far more issues that could be dealt with (I've learned about MOST of them since moving outside of downtown JC) but nothing wrong with a good investment in culture to ultimately enrich the city

It actually is a huge honor that Jersey City is going to be the new home of this museum. Contrary to what many people here seem to believe, art and culture are a very important aspect of society, especially cities. Museums enrich communities and boost economies through tourism, which is good for boosting small businesses

Reply to Hamilton Park- social life by everythingbagel57
Hamilton park is the best neighborhood in downtown, in my opinion. It's walking distance to all the restaurants, nightlife (which has gone way downhill around the pedestrian plaza thanks to places like the Ashford) yes, but it's also surrounded by some of the best restaurants in the area. White star, Chickies, Hamilton pork. And they're tucked away to keep the general Newark Ave crowd at an arms length. Not to mention all the gorgeous brownstones, nice little shops, and the park itself.
It'd be silly to miss out on such a gem of a neighborhood in fear of missing out on the dwindling quality of the pedestrian plaza 's offerings

Reply to Is moving to NJ (JC/Hoboken/Weehawken) from Florida worth it to live and experience NYC? by virginiarph
If you want a real city with real community, jersey city is the place. Hoboken is kinda filled with transient people who move there for the partying and the proximity to NYC.
All areas of jersey city have their pros and cons but anywhere downtown is accessible by public transportation and very walkable. Semi-bike friendly too

Reply to To those that have lived in Jersey City or Hoboken AND Queens or Brooklyn, which do you prefer and why? by seeyam14
Grew up in queens, lived in Brooklyn for 5 years and jersey city for 6ish. I never thought I'd move to jersey. Now, I feel like I'll never really need a reason to move back to NYC. I love NY so much but Jersey city has a great community, small city vibes with access to NY any time you wanna go.
Also, Chelsea is super convenient on the path train

Reply to Bit of an odd request, but does anyone know where there is a coin counting machine? by DanSaysHi
Get some of those paper coin rolls and bring it to the bank. Any coin counting machine is going to take a % if you want cash, or offer gift cards.

Reply to Why is Wonder Bagel so terrible? by itwasntmethough
The bagels are awful. Not worth the wait. A friend of mine just opened a place in Montclair called Harvey's hand rolled. It's worth the 30 mom drive (vs the 30 min wait for wonder bagels) and they're just as good as any NYC bagel! Hopefully they decide to open a 2nd spot in JC

It's a lot of hype but I wouldn't call it a hype restaurant. The food and drinks are consistently astounding. But yeah, being a local, it's not as fun when you have to wait up to 2hrs just because of the hype
