I think doorman buildings give a false sense of security, especially the huge ones. I'd be curious to see the statistics on this.

I hated having a doorman. Some of them were great, but a lot of them were very gossipy and didn't do much other than hand out packages.

The only sketchy part is the (very short) walk from MSG to PATH. Try to walk with a crowd of fellow concert goers. Other than that, totally safe .

If you are in one of the Parkside buildings, this is a very longstanding issue unfortunately. One of the tenants went to battle with them over this for years, did a PR campaign, and even got the city involved. That still didn't solve the problem. They are slumlords. Good luck.
