At that time was either the army or being outlaw, and he had a big family on his shoulders, I think very few of us today would have the balls to go against the status quo and sacrifice everything, besides you can’t reasonably think that every single Italian in the army at that time was a monster. Considering the consequences. Btw they weren’t Jews, when Mussolini was arrested and the Germans took over anyone who would refuse to fight for the German cause was sent to concentration camps.

That was his sister and her family he wasn’t there when it happened, but don’t worry my other grandpa was notorious for finding every best excuse to skip the war, and he did, I’m not brave at all, I guess I got his blood, but he loved me very much and took great care of me until he was alive, this one in the picture from my mother side I never met, but he was said to be an immense person, crazy strict, and industrious

We are always conflicted having this at home but its a piece of history of our family and not memorabilia

At that point of the war nothing would have changed, probably more allied would have died since the German would have had completely took over the defense of Italy prior to Operation Husky. Doesn’t matter which government takes hold in Italy we can always count on the incompetence of our leaders haha
