It may be just wild guess but maybe there are some strange reports from WW2? And if you find something maybe there are still some witnesses?
On the other hand maybe very loud noise is painful for it? Officer Decker scared it away but the question is did he wounded it? Or did the gunshots scared it? Also if nothing strange happened in WW2 then maybe really loud sounds are at least unpleasant for it?
Anyway, just in case, I think I would buy an emergency air horn.
