Evergoods is a newer company that is puttering out some really nice packs, I’d recommend a CPL, or CHZ for school duties. Evergoods is founded by two industry veterans from GoRuck, and Patagonia. GoRuck makes very (expensive) nice packs too, I’d recommend the heritage line or regular GR1 models for your kid. Patagonia is much more affordable, but make great packs too their MLC 30 comes to mind for a good all arounder. Mystery Ranch is a another brand I’d check out. Their District line is good for school.
All these brands I mentioned have lifetime warranties.

Lowe Alpine made some very high quality packs back in the 90’s. They make ok, stuff now.

I’ve had Blundstones before and they are mediocre….I have since been wearing a pair of R.M Williams Gardener boots and they are fantastic. They are welted so they can be rebuilt too. The Gardener model has a thicker and deeper lugged outsole so they are good in the snow too.

Run the gas tank dry at the end of every season to prevent the (ethanol) gas from rotting the lines and going bad in the tank. Check oil level every time before you use it.

Peter Limmer boots from New Hampshire, not the German made ones. Will last the rest of your life, can be rebuilt.

Do you have Osprey where you are? They are very good less expensive packs, with a great selection.

Yes, same happened to me. Blundstone replaced mine, but I gave them away to someone who would wear them more. Especially if you live in a humid environment, you need to wear them a lot, or the hydrolysis will happen and the boots will fail.

GoRuck’s Heritage line would work in an office environment, especially the black waxed canvas.

Yes! Drink a huge glass of water before you eat any meal, you’ll get full faster, with less food so you’ll lose weight.
